Surinder Pundir elected president of Dehradun Bar Association


Dehradun, February 28
In the poll results of the Dehradun Bar Association (DBA), which were announced late on Monday night, Surinder Singh Pundir emerged as winner for the position of president, Anil Gandhi was elected as secretary, Deepak Kumar as vice-president and Ajay Bisht as general secretary. After the result was announced, the members of DBA and advocate fraternity celebrated the victory with gulal colours and sweets. On Tuesday afternoon, the elected members attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Surinder Singh Pundir, who got 826 votes, defeated his close contestant Razia Begh by a margin of 234 votes, wheras Anil Gandhi, who got record 1110 votes, defeated Raghuvir Singh Kathait by 485 votes. Deepak Kumar got 855 votes and defeated Alok Kumar by 35 votes. Ajay Bisht got 567 votes and defeated his rival Kali Prasad Bhatt by 62 votes.
For the position of librarian, Satya Dogra retained her seat by winning 902 votes and BD Uniyal also retained the position of auditor by getting 1024 votes.
The beaming Surinder Pundir said he would keep the allotment process of new chambers transparent and if need arose for new chambers, he would take up the matter with the state government. The cost of the new chambers would also be reduced and parking space would be provided to the fellow advocates, he said. He also ensured all the facilities related to documentation would now be provided on the ground floor itself for the aged applicants.
Anil Gandhi said he would fight to accord the status of statehood agitators for those advocates who participated in the agitation for the formation of the state. The mismanagement in tehsil compound would be contained, he said.
Deepak Kumar, vice-president, said he would make efforts to set up a registrar’s office on the ground floor. The young advocates would also be helped in all possible ways.

Youth festival at Sanskrit University



Haridwar, February 28
Mahavidyalyas, vidyalayas and other institutions affiliated with Uttarakhand Sanskrit University participated in the annual youth festival held on the university campus here today.

Haridwar SSP Pushkar Sailal and the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr Sudha Rani Pandey, were the chief guests.
The programme began with the lighting of a lamp by the chief guests which was followed by ‘Saraswati Vandana’. Students also presented skits and folk dances.
The programme was organised by the students’ welfare union. The prize distribution function was also held.
Students of Partha Sarthi School, Khadkhadi, also presented patriotic programmes.
Meanwhile, a three-day annual festival began at Mahila Mahavidyalaya (PG) at Kankhal today. Various activities were held on day 1.
The college Principal, Dr Geeta Joshi, urged the girls to take part in such events for their overall personality development.
